VIT University alumni appointed as Rwanda’s Education Minister

Papias Malimba Musafiri did his PhD in management from the University

In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s office, Dr Papias Malimba Musafiri has been appointed as Rwanda’s new Minister for Education. He replaces Prof. Silas Lwakabamba, to take the new top brass position.

Academic qualifications

Musafiri graduated with a bachelor’s degree in commerce and management from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and has a master's degree in business administration, majoring in Finance and Information Technology from, the School of Business at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Roorkee). He also holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Management from VIT University.

With an academic experience that stretches over 14 years, Papias Musafiri Malimba has been the Principal of the College of Business and Economics of the University of Rwanda. Prior to his appointment, Musafiri was involved in teaching, research and consultancy. He has held several senior management positions, such as director of administration and human resources, acting dean, faculty of management, vice rector academics and acting rector, in former public higher learning institutions.

Research experience

During his stay at VIT University, Musafiri was involved in publication and presentation of research articles in various national and international seminars and conferences. He has published international journals like international journal of social economics, journal of financial services marketing etc., with his research supervisor P Ganesan.
